Full Description

A ditched and banked linear feature is visible as cropmarks and earthworks in fields to the northeast of Pimperne, crossing Pimperne and Tarrant Hinton parishes, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature visible on lidar imagery comprises a section of linear bank approximately 12m wide and over 165m in length, extending between two historic field boundaries on a northwest to southeast alignment. The bank is flanked by ditches on both sides, over 4m wide [2]. The feature continues as a cropmark in the field to the southeast, where it appears to extend as far as a possible Iron Age trackway or cross dyke (MDO4995) [1]. The feature is considered likely to be an earthwork, possibly a field boundary or boundary bank, of potentially late prehistoric date. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
