Monument record MDO44547 - Late prehistoric trackway, Blandford Down, Tarrant Launceston

Banked linear and curvilinear features are visible as earthworks on Blandford Down, in Tarrant Launceston parish, on 1940s aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are considered likely to be part of a later prehistoric trackway, possibly associated with a late prehistoric settlement to the south (MDO5040). The features are within an area of earthworks associated with later prehistoric field systems and further trackways and linear earthworks, and are complicated by later earthworks resulting from the wartime activity within Blandford Camp, which in places overlie, and in some cases, alter, these earlier sites. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

The features are within an area of earthworks associated with later prehistoric field systems and further trackways and linear earthworks, and are complicated by later earthworks resulting from the wartime activity within Blandford Camp, which in places overlie, and in some cases, alter, these earlier sites. Towards its eastern end, the probable trackway may link into further linear earthworks and trackways that may be broadly contemporary and part of the wider area of settlement, field systems and earthworks on Blandford Down. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
