Summary
Findspot of a sword of Medieval or later date. Apparently made of steel, with a brass "handle", it was found at Rye Hill, St Giles by Robert Hayward. It seems that in 1877 it was in the possession of a man named Colborne. The Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division were unable to discover anything further about the sword, its finder or its last recorded owner.

Full Description
A Steel sword. - the handle of brass, was found at Rye Hill, Wimborne St. Giles by Robert Hayward. A man by name of Colborne had it 1877. <1>
The family name of Hayward was not known in St. Giles. The Shaftesbury Estates who own most of the land in the vicinity had no knowledge of the find. <2>
