Monument record MDO44830 - Probable Bronze Age round barrow, Tarrant Monkton

A sub-circular ring ditch is visible as a cropmark to the west of Tarrant Monkton on aerial photographs. The feature may be the outer ditch of a Bronze Age barrow and is recorded under NRHE Hob UID 1478921. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9392 0853 and is defined by a single narrow ring ditch which encloses a circular area measuring 13m in diameter, with no visible entrances. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it could be the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, several of which are known in this area. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. <1> A sub-circular ring ditch is visible as a cropmark to the west of Tarrant Monkton on aerial photographs <2, 3>. The feature comprises a 0.75m wide ditch describing a sub-circular ring ditch approximately 15.5 m in diameter and with a gap on it southeast side, possibly eroded from where a trackway crosses the feature. It may be the outer ditch of a Bronze Age barrow and is recorded under NRHE Hob UID 1478921. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
