Full Description

COTTAGES (97101701), two adjacent, of two storeys with walls of banded brickwork and flint, and with tiled roofs, are of the 18th century, but they incorporate a stone doorway and other masonry of 17th-century date. Reset in the S.front are 20 small monolithic round-headed niches of unknown origin. <1> [Note: RCHME and subsequently the NRHE-to-HER database appears to have both swapped the coordinates for Sixpenny Handley 14 / NRHE UID 209814 (ie MDO9570) and Sixpenny Handley 15 / NRHE UID 209815 (ie MDO45133). The HER Map therefore has their locations flipped. Looking at the text on the HER map, as well as our QGIS map (both of which clearly show the outlines of the buildings), the aerial photograph layers of our GQIS map and also google maps street view they all clearly show that the locations have been flipped. This determination is also supported by the photograph of Sixpenny Handley 14 (ie MDO9570) in SDO129 and by the descriptions of both monuments. Therefore, the coordinates of NRHE UID 209814 should be ST 97101701; whilst the coordinates of 209815 should be ST 96941693].
