Summary

A three sided rectilinear cropmark to the east of Tarrant Monkton is visible on an aerial photograph dated 2015. The feature may be a small rectilinear enclosure of later prehistoric origin, possibly of Iron Age to Roman date. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Three sides of a rectangular enclosure of unknown date were recorded as cropmarks on 2015 Historic England oblique aerial photographs. They are centred at ST 9556 0910. <1-2> A three sided rectilinear cropmark to the east of Tarrant Monkton is visible on an aerial photograph dated 2015 <3>. The feature measures approximately 51m long by 20m deep. The south side, if there is one, is not visible. It may be a small rectilinear enclosure of later prehistoric origin, possibly of Iron Age to Roman date and potentially associated with further features to the south, which may represent an area of later prehistoric to Roman settlement (MDOs 45141 and 45142). The feature is also recorded under NRHE Hob UID 1622777. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
