Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Banjo enclosure visible as cropmarks on air photographs. Irregularly shaped, the enclosure is circa 90 metres across at its greatest extent, and features an entrance on the southeast, the approach to it flanked by side ditches which extend for around 40 metres before curving away, one to the south and southeast, the other to the north and northwest. The latter follows a sinuous course before curving to accommodate a small roughly circular enclosure circa 30 metres in diameter. Both the main enclosure and the smaller enclosure feature pits visible as cropmarks.

Full Description
ST 982168. The crop mark of a 'Banjo' enclosure is visible on air photographs of July 1970. It consists of an irregular shaped area, perhaps 90m across, defined by a ditch turning sharply outward on either side of an entrance to form a short 'approach lane'. The ditch swings away to left and right following an irregular curving course for a few hundred metres.
On one side the perimeter ditch seems to embrace another smaller enclosure. <1>
'Banjo' enclosure, are 0.6ha. AP suggests complex phases at NE, where also pits and smears outside 'banjo'; linear [ST 91 NE 74] apparently unconnected on W. <3-4>
