Full Description
A rectilinear cropmark to the east of Tarrant Monkton is visible on an aerial photograph dated 2015 [1]. The feature comprises a rectilinear cropmark which measures approximately 49m long by 28m wide. The south side is fainter and there are gaps at the southwest and northeast corners - possibly entrances but maybe where the feature is weaker, perhaps the result of plough action. A short linear ditch within the feature is also visible.
The feature may be a rectilinear enclosure of later prehistoric origin, possibly of Iron Age to Roman date and potentially associated with further features to the north, which may represent an area of later prehistoric to Roman settlement (MDOs 45140 to 45143).
The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
