Summary
Deserted settlement located near the church and Mapperton House. It was depopulated in 1666 following the Great Plague. Building foundations have been found in the gardens of Mapperton House.

Full Description
Old foundations were found some years ago in the gardens of Mapperton House between the East windows of the Drawing room, and the edge of the terrace. <1>
Mapperton village appears to have been located near the present day church and Manor House. The entire parish was depopulated in 1666 following the Great Plague. Traditionally, the plague victims are said to be buried atop South Warren Hill in the parish of Netherbury because Mapperton Churchyard was unconsecrated. <2>
