Summary
A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1947 but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site comprises a central dot which is surrounded by a triangle and a concentric outer circle. The circle measures circa 19m in diameter. Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters. The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953, when it is visible as a cropmark.

Full Description
A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1947, but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site is centred at ST 9558 1055 and comprises a central dot which is surrounded by a triangle and a concentric outer circle. The circle measures circa 19m in diameter.
Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters (see Associated Monuments). The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953, when it is visible as a cropmark. <1-2>
