Summary
A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1943, but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site is centred at ST 9582 1125 and comprises an aeroplane shape which is orientated roughly north / south. The aeroplane measures 21m long and 22m wide across the wings. Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters. The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953.

Full Description
A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1943, but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site is centred at ST 9582 1125 and comprises an aeroplane shape which is orientated roughly north / south. The aeroplane measures 21m long and 22m wide across the wings.
Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters (see Associated Monuments). The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953. <1-2>
