Full Description
Banked curvilinear features are visible as earthworks to the east of Tarrant Monkton on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features comprise a series of curvilinear banks that appear to form a partial oval enclosure 435m long by 357m wide. The feature may be later prehistoric origin, perhaps Iron Age in date. The feature is located within an area of extensive later prehistoric field systems (MDO45135 and MDO45422) and may be contemporary with, or slightly later than, these. The feature is complicated by the medieval parish boundary between Tarrant Monkton and Tarrant Launceston, which curves round and respects the possible feature, and some of the curvilinear banks may be in fact medieval in date and related to this later boundary bank.It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
