Monument record MDO45433 - Possible later prehistoric/medieval hollow way, Stubbs Coppice, Tarrant Rushton

Please read our .

Summary

Ditched linear features are visible as earthworks within Stubbs Coppice, Tarrant Rushton, on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features form two broadly parallel lines on a southeast to northwest alignment and are probably trackways, of potentially later prehistoric to medieval date. The spacing and alignment suggest they may be continuations of two ditched linears around 80m to the west, which appear to form the eastern end of a double trackway or hollow way of potentially later prehistoric to medieval date (MDO45223), but which have been alternatively recorded under NRHE Hob UID as a possible later prehistoric enclosure. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Ditched linear features are visible as earthworks within Stubbs Coppice, Tarrant Rushton, on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features form two broadly parallel lines extending for over 325m on a southeast to northwest alignment and are probably trackways, of potentially later prehistoric to medieval date. The relationship, if any, between these sets of features therefore remains uncertain. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
