Full Description

A sub-rectangular enclosure is visible as cropmarks on air photographs. It measures circa 130 metres by 150 metres. Three of its four sides are straight. The fourth, northwestern, side is more sinuous but closely follows the course of the immediately adjacent linear feature (ST 91 SE 143). The southeast side features two gaps or causeways which may represent entrances. No internal features are visible. The enclosure shares a similar orientation to the nearby, smaller enclosure ST 91 SE 25. This, combined with its clear relationship to the linear, suggests that all three monuments may be broadly contemporary. The cropmarks were mapped by RCHME in 1997 as part of the Industry and Enclosure in the Neolithic Project (following a rather tentative suggestion that the smaller enclosure, which appears to feature several causeways, may be Neolithic). See the archive report for full details. This site was formerly recorded as part of ST 91 SE 25, and that record should be consulted for additional information and references.
