Summary
A post medieval extractive pit to the north of Barrow Hill, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is within an area of sand, silt and clay geology and is documented on the OS 1st Edition map as an old clay pit. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit to the north of Barrow Hill, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The feature is within an area of sand, silt and clay geology and is documented on the OS 1st Edition map as an old clay pit [2]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The feature may still survive below trees on 2002 Google Earth imagery [3].
