Summary
A large post medieval sand pit to the east of Sandpit Farm, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is within an area of sand, silt and clay geology and is documented on the OS 1st and 2nd Edition maps as a sand pit and old sand pit respectively. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
A large post medieval sand pit to the east of Sandpit Farm, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The feature is within an area of sand, silt and clay geology and is documented on the OS 1st and 2nd Edition maps as a sand pit and old sand pit respectively [2, 3]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The feature is still visible as shallow earthworks on 2022 Google Earth imagery [4].
