The feature is not documented any any historic mapping but is assumed to be a post medieval chalk pit based on the name of the copse. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

A post medieval extractive pit within Chalkpit Copse, Corfe Mullen, is visible as an earthwork on a 1945 aerial photograph and on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. It it also visible on an aerial photograph dated 1959 [3]. The feature is not documented any any historic mapping but is assumed to be a post medieval chalk pit based on the name of the copse. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
