Summary
A post medieval extractive pit to the west of Hill Farm, Corfe Mullen, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is recorded as a gravel pit on the OS 1st Edition map. The 2nd and 3rd Edition OS maps show that it was enlarged over time to the extent visible in 1947. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit to the west of Hill Farm, Corfe Mullen, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s and 1950s aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1-3]. The feature is recorded as a gravel pit on the OS 1st Edition map [4]. The 2nd and 3rd Edition OS maps show that it was enlarged over time to the extent visible in 1947. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
