Summary
Several banked and ditched linear features are visible as earthworks to the east of Lytchett Matravers on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are within fields shown as rough ground on historic OS mapping and are considered likely to be historic trackways and/or field boundaries of potentially medieval to post medieval origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
Several banked and ditched linear features are visible as earthworks to the east of Lytchett Matravers on 1940s aerial photographs [1, 2, 3]. The features include several linear ditches and banks that align north to south within fields shown as rough ground on historic OS mapping and are considered likely to be historic trackways and/or field boundaries of potentially medieval to post medieval origin. Additional features to the east may also be historic field boundaries of potential medieval/post medieval date, perhaps including the remnants of medieval strips. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The north-south aligned features are still visible as cropmarks on 2021 APGB imagery and 2002 Google Earth imagery [4, 5].
