Summary
A pond and associated drainage channel is visible as ditched and banked earthworks to the east of Lytchett Matravers on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature corresponds with a pond documented on the OS 1st Edition map - the drainage channel is not documented until the OS a5-2500 Epoch map, dated 1955, suggesting this may be an early 20th century addition. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
A pond and associated drainage channel is visible as ditched and banked earthworks to the east of Lytchett Matravers on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The feature corresponds with a pond documented on the OS 1st Edition map - the drainage channel is not documented until the OS a5-2500 Epoch map, dated 1955, suggesting this may be an early 20th century addition [2, 3]. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. Part of the banked drainage channel is still visible on 2021 APGB imagery, the pond may survive but is under tree cover.
