Full Description

A post medieval brickworks north of St Leonard's Farm, Lytchett Minster, is visible as earthworks and structures on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The aerial photograph dated 1948 shows an irregular extractive pit with two ruined structures, probably brick kilns documented on the OS 1st and 2nd Edition maps [2, 3]. These two mpas document the site as a brickworks. The OS 3rd Edition map shows earthworks but no structures [4]. The OS a5-2500 Epoch map dated 1955 also shows earthworks, part of which are a pond by that time [5]. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
