A post medieval extractive pit on the north side of Luscombe Wood, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is documented on the OS 1st Edition map as an old sandpit. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A post medieval extractive pit on the north side of Luscombe Wood, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The feature is documented on the OS 1st Edition map as an old sand pit [2]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The feature appears to still survive below trees on 2002 Google Earth imagery [3].
