Monument record MDO45718 - Enclosure, Gussage St Michael
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A subrectangular enclosure visible as a cropmark on air photographs. Located a short distance north east of the "banjo" complex ST 91 SE 213, it also occurs at the southern end of an extensive surface spread of occupation debris (ST 91 SE 219) and is immediately adjacent to and southwest of a series of linear features which also seem to incorporate a further subrectangular enclosure. In 1969, N H Field referred to the excavation of some small test pit in the square earthwork adjoining the aforementioned artefacts scatter. Presumably this is the enclosure being referred to. No finds were made within the enclosure, although material similar to the artefacts present in the surface scatter were found in test pits dug outside the enclosure.
