Monument record MDO45780 - Bronze Age or Iron Age settlement enclosure with internal pits, Winterborne Clenston
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A rectilinear ditched enclosure is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 2015 to the southeast of Field Barn, Winterborne Clenston. The enclosure has a large gap which is probably an entrance midway along its southern side, and a narrower one on the north side. It is 120m by 100m in size with internal pits and is considered likely to be a later prehistoric settlement enclosure. Fragments of possibly contemporary ditched field boundaries are visible to the north and south. The features were digitally recorded during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M Project.
