Full Description
A hammer-head of stone from Winterborne Stickland. Presented by Mr. T Dayrell-Reed. Acquired by Dorset County Museum in 1938. <1>
Neolithic, with hour-glass perforation, made from a dark red-brown beach pebble. Accession No 1938.35.1. <2>
Macehead. Petrologically examined; (No 372) of quartzite. <3>
The macehead was given to me circa 1935 by the then landlord (now deceased) of the Crown Inn, Winterborne Stickland. He told me he had had it for some years and that it had been ploughed up by a carter on a farm in the village, but which farm he could not recall. <4>
