Summary
Excavations near the bridge at the northern entrance to Wareham in 1895 located deposits of oyster shells. Similar deposits were also seen during work at the bridge in 1897. These are thought possibly to be Roman.

Full Description
Excavations by the base of the bastion the North entrance to Wareham, by the bridge, in 1895 located an oyster shell-midden at a depth of 3 feet. A similar bed was found at a depth of 4 feet at the base of the bastion on the East side of the bridge in 1897. Both are probably Roman. <1>
