Monument record MDO46163 - Normans Quarry, Langton Matravers
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Restored 19th century Purbeck Marble quarry situated east of Castle View to the north-east of Acton. The site includes two small quarr houses (dressing sheds) with stone roofs, a capstan between two crab-stones, and iron rails leading to an inclined shaft. The shaft was sunk by the Norman family in the early 20th century and worked until 1939. The site provides a excellent interpretative example of a typical quarr house.
