Monument record MDO46293 - Bowl Barrow, one of Black Down Group, Winterbourne Steepleton
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A mound recorded close to probable Bronze Age bowl barrow, but since destroyed. The proximity of the mound to the barrow had led to the suggestion that it represented spoil from the excavation of the bowl barrow mound, which has been extensively disturbed by digging. By the time of Ordnance Survey field investigation in 1954, the mound had gone, presumably destroyed by gravel digging, making any firm decision as to its precise nature impossible.
