Full Description
In September 1977 the Shaftesbury and District Archaeological Group excavated a small sondage to the rear of Shaftesbury Museum, in advance of a proposed building extension. A pit was encountered at a depth of 0.75 m below ground level. It was not fully excavated, but was at least 1.25 m deep. A sandstone arch springing was found at a depth of one metre within this pit.
