Summary
The remains of a Second World War military camp are visible as earthworks on a 1945 aerial photograph. The features comprise paths and roadways, tent and/or building platforms, and possibly slit trenches. The camp is recorded as having been occupied by the US Army 1557 QM Battalion, reference (AAF-432) in Wartimes.ca. No further details are known. Full Description
The remains of a Second World War military camp are visible as earthworks on a 1945 aerial photograph [1]. The features comprise paths and roadways, tent and/or building platforms, and possibly slit trenches located within an area of open ground around 300m east of Charborough House. The features are very faded by 1945 and detail is not clear.
The camp is recorded as having been occupied by the US Army 1557 QM Battalion, reference (AAF-432) in Wartimes.ca. No further details are known. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
