Monument record MDO46512 - Undated enclosure, Sturminster Marshall

A possible rectilinear ditched enclosure to the southwest of Stag Gate Wood, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as a broken cropmark on a 2007 aerial photograph. The feature is within a field containing several probable Bronze Age barrows. It is also overlain by, or alternatively overlies, a ditched and banked linear feature that might be trackway of either later prehistoric or medieval to post medieval date (MDO46513). The date and origin of the feature is uncertain. It could potentially be a much disturbed barrow, or possibly a small enclosure of later prehistoric to post medieval date - or it could be simply a spurious cropmark. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

The feature compriese two parallel linear ditches approximately 23m long and 14m apart, with a broken indistinct ditched linear running between these at the western end, open to the east. It is situated within a field containing several probable Bronze Age barrows. It is also overlain by, or alternatively overlies, a ditched and banked linear feature that might be a trackway of either later prehistoric or alternatively medieval to post medieval date (MDO46513). The date and origin of the feature is uncertain. It could potentially be a much disturbed barrow, or possibly a small enclosure of later prehistoric to post medieval date - or it could be simply a spurious cropmark.
