Full Description

Banked linear features to the south of Charborough House, Morden, and extending into Lytchett Matravers parish, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and as cropmarks on 2018 Google Earth Imagery [1-3]. The features align SSW to NNE, perpendicular to, and underlying, the historic field boundaries. They are considered likely to also be field boundaries, possibly of later prehistoric date - they are situated on the eastern edge of a later prehistoric field system MDO46533, although a later, perhaps medieval, origin is also possible - they might be associated with the desertemed medieval village of Charborough (MDO7825), the site of which is adjacent to the northeast, although they do extend across the parish boundary line, perhaps supporting an earlier origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
