Summary

Two areas of probable post medieval extraction, alongside a smaller sub-circular hollow feature that might also be a post medieval extractive pit, are visible as earthworks to the south of St Mary's Church, Almer, Sturminster Marshall, on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are most likely chalk or gravel pits. The largest of the features is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map and is recorded as a pond on an OS map dated 1955. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Two areas of probable post medieval extraction, alongside a smaller sub-circular hollow feature that might also be a post medieval extractive pit, are visible as earthworks to the south of St Mary's Church, Almer, Sturminster Marshall, on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2].
