Summary
A rectilinear banked mound to the south of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is located adjacent to a historic pond but is of uncertain date or function, although a post medieval to early 20th century drainage feature is possible. It is located within 450m west of three similar features (MDO46757), also situated close to the River Winterborne. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
A rectilinear banked mound to the south of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is located adjacent to a historic pond but is of uncertain date or function, although a post medieval to early 20th century drainage feature is possible. It is located within 450m west of three similar features (MDO46757), also situated close to the River Winterborne. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
