Monument record MDO46764 - Undated field boundaries, Almer, Sturminster Marshall
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
An extensive area of banked linear features within fields to the north of Almer, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The majority of features are of regular form and align with the historic field pattern. It is not absolutely clear how the features relate to the Roman road (MDO46714) to the northwest, but it is possible that some respect it and others may cross it. The features might be historic field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date, although it is possible that some might have an earlier, perhaps prehistoric, origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
