Full Description

Areas of possible ridged and ditched cultivation and historic field boundaries to the southwest of Newton Peveril, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features comprise broad and slightly curvilinear cultivation bordered by sections of linear banks that infill the present historic field pattern. The lidar imagery suggests that one of the field boundaries on the west side of a historic road recorded on the OS 1st Edition map belongs was formerly part of this grouping and was cut by the road, suggesting a pre-1880s origin. The features may be of medieval to post medieval date and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
