Summary
An indented hollow on the west side of a water channel linking into the River Winterborne to the northeast of the World's End, Morden, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency Lidar imagery. The feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map and could be a post medieval pond, possibly derived from a former extractive pit - there is a large gravel pit (MDO46760) adjacent to the west. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description
An indented hollow on the west side of of a water channel linking into the River Winterborne to the northeast of the World's End, Morden, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency Lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st Edition map [3]. The lidar imagery suggests an uneven feature up to 77m long by up to 28m wide that is larger than that shown on historic mapping. The feature is visible as an earthwork on a 1947 aerial photograph, which suggest it is flooded at that time [2]. The feature could be a post medieval pond, possibly derived from a former extractive pit - there is a large gravel pit (MDO46760) adjacent to the west. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
