Summary

A World War Two spigot mortar base located near the bridge over the River Frome, at Maiden Newton, near Dorchester. It is was constructed in 1941 and is of conglomerate concrete with a smooth exterior finish. A field visit in 1996 found it to be in a good condition, with its steel pin still in position.

Full Description

A Spigot mortar base situated near the River Frome. In good condition, with its steel pin still in position. Constructed of conglomerate concrete with a smooth exterior finish. Part of the edge has been chipped away revealing the internal reinforcing lattice work of iron. 42ins diameter, 12ins inner thin iron plate, 2ins diameter/4ins high stainless steel mount.In meadows near the bridge over the River Frome, at Maiden Newton, nr. Dorchester. <1-3>
