Summary

Traces of medieval strip lynchets running round the north and southeast sides of Watton Hill. The lynchets are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and aerial photohraphs and were digitally plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP project.

Full Description

[SY 4793] Lynchets, on the SE side of WATTON HILL, consist of traces only of former terraces. <2> Centred at: SY 47159370. Pronounced approximately parallel terracing, following the contour on a steep hillside. The area was under young trees and was not closely investigated. The boundary of the area was delineated from a distance. <3> At the North end of Watton Hill, 2 strip lynchets with 50 foot treads extend 220 yards towards the western group of lynchets (noted by Auth 2). <4> The two lynchets are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and were digtially plotted during the Marshwood Vale NMP project. <5-7>
