Summary
Earthwork remains of a deserted medieval settlement identifed at Higher Kingcombe Farm, possibly the site of Chimedecombe. The earthworks comprise a series of indeterminate banks to the south of Higher Kingscombe Farm, and a series of at least seven crofts set out in a parallel system to the south of the road to the west of the farm.

Full Description
(SY547997. DMV sited at Higher Kingcombe Farm from Auth 1 and OS 10000 1976). Hutchins says that Chimedecombe was anciently a manor and a tithing in Bridport division and Redhove Hundred. Higher Kentcomb (Kingcombe) seems to have been Chimedecombe in Domesday. <1>
A series of indeterminate banks over to the South of Higher Kingscombe Farm, and a series of at least 7 crofts are set out in a parallel system South of the road to the West of the farm. <2>
'Chimedecombe' in Domesday Book, 'Kendecombe' in the Book of Fee, 1212, 'Nether Kentecombe' in the 1315 Feet of Fines. <3>
