Summary
Two trenches were excavated at the Old County Hospital site in 1999. At the largest trench, just north of Somerleigh Court, two adjacent, but separate, Roman buildings of 2nd-3rd century date, and a stone lined well linked to the buildings by a chalk path, were excavated. In the second area to the north, and adjacent to Somerleigh Road, a Roman street line and partly exposed building were excavated.
