1630 wreck of a Dunkirk privateer. She was a wooden sailing vessel of approximately 100 tons. The vessel was deliberately run ashore in Studland Bay while trying to escape from three Dutch warships. The vessel may have been refloated and recovered. (1) 'April 28: 32. Mayor and others of Poole to the Council. On the 27th inst. there came into that town out of Purbeck, Henrick Jacobson and others, with 40 sailors of the FRANCES of Dunkirk, forced ashore into Studland Bay by three States men-of-war. Send their examinations. Inclose.' '32. i. Separate examinations of Henrick Jacobson, captain, and John Pry, master, of the FRANCES of Dunkirk. Had been at sea 14 days, and had taken one ship, a Frenchman, coming out of Spain, which had been previously taken by an English man-of-war, of Lyme, also an Irishman coming in ballast from London. Poole, 1630, April 27.' This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
