Summary

Waterworks with house depicted on the 1:25-inch scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1902, on which it is described as 'Pumping Station (Portland U. D. Council)'. The works was built in 1899 to supply water to Portland but by 1914 the water source was unable to meet demand. A replacement works was built, and the Gould's Hill works closed. The works was demolished in 1970 but the house remains, though much altered.
