Summary

A roughly circular earthwork defined by a low bank and external ditch lies against the south side of the moat at Parsonage Farm, Stourpaine. This earthwork appears to be later than the moat and is labelled as a cockpit on historic maps. It is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project. This earthwork is labelled as 'Cockpit' on the first edition 25-inch Ordnance Survey map. <1> The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water A roughly circular earthwork defined by a low bank and external ditch lies against the south side of the moat at Parsonage Farm, Stourpaine. This earthwork appears to be later than the moat and is labelled as a cockpit on historic maps. It is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and lidar imagery [3-4] and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
