Monument record MDO4822 - Possible round barrow, Stourpaine

Please read our .

Summary

Interpreted by the Ordnance Survey and by L V Grinsell as a Bronze Age round barrow, aerial photographs dated 2005 clearly indicate that this monument actually posesses a square ditch some 14 metres across, with sharply-angled corners. In 1955 there was a rise in ground level of some 0.3m at the site and a faint, unsurveyable remnant ditch. By 1986 ploughing had reduced the mound to a vestigial swelling. A circular mound 9m across is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 it is considered to be the site of a Bronze Age round barrow and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water
