Full Description

'(29) CULTIVATION REMAINS. Nothing is known of the mediaeval fields of Stubhampton or Gunville. Indistinct traces of contour strip lynchets N.W. of Gunville (920133) probably represent the fields of that settlement. More extensive traces of contour strip lynchets on the S.W. of Stubhampton (917136) have recently been ploughed down. 'Celtic' fields on Stubhampton Down (see p.120, Group (76)) were reploughed to form strip cultivation in mediaeval times, or perhaps later'. (1)
