Full Description

Buzbury Rings is an enclosed Iron Age and Romano-British settlement. It has inner and an outer enclosures. The inner enclosure is defined by a single bank and contains a number of possible hut circles. Numerous objects and much occupation debris, including sherds of Iron Age and Roman pottery, have been found at various times, almost all in the inner enclosure. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water. The earthworks and finds indicate a small rural settlement, continuously occupied from the Iron Age to the end of the Roman period. The form of the earthworks suggests more than one stage of construction. <1> The settlement earthworks are visible on aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [21 -23]. and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
