Monument record MDO5025 - Bronze Age bowl barrow south west of Buzbury Rings, Tarrant Keyneston
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
The ploughed down remains of a Bronze Age bowl barrow on a narrow spur on Keyneston Down. In 1972 this monument was reported to be around 70 feet in diameter, with a mound standing some 3 feet high. Later reports suggest that it is now much reduced by ploughing. This may be a barrow part excavated in 1840 by J H Austen which produced Middle Bronze Age pottery.
The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.
The feature is visible as an earthwork on an aerial photograph dated 1948, and on Environment Agency lidar imagery. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.
