Monument record MDO5047 - Round barrow, Tarrant Launceston

Please read our .

Summary

A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is defined by a single narrow ring ditch which encloses a circular area measuring 16m in diameter, with no visible entrances. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it could be the plough levelled remains of a Prehistoric funerary monument such as a Bronze Age round barrow but there is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. The barrow is visible as a sub-circular ring ditch cropmark on aerial photographs and as an earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
