Full Description

Intrusive crouched inhumation, probably Romano British or pagan Saxon. Excavated in 1938 within a bronze age bowl barrow. An inhumation of unknown date had been inserted just inside the penannular ditch close to the north east terminal, and cutting the earlier, shallower ditch. Its date is unclear but the crouched position of the skeleton suggests a possible pre-Roman date, although the excavators compared it to contracted inhumations of Roman date. This site was originally recorded as part of ST 91 SE 59. See MDO5070 where the bowl barrow is recorded as its own entity.
